When we speak about avant-garde art we usually think about plastic art (like painting) or figurative art (like sculpture), but decorative arts have also played an important part in the avant-garde artistic movements during the 20th century. One of those movements was Art Deco, and it left behind an indelible remnant in the architecture of cities such as New York or Paris, in cinematographic works and in contemporary architecture and interior design.

Even though we know it as Art Deco, that is a term which was introduced long after. On its birth, together with a collective dedicated to avant-garde interior design, it was conceived as a modern movement. That might be the reason why it was used for the decoration of science fiction films like Fritz Lang’s METROPOLIS, in order to depict a technologically advanced future, a dehumanized and futuristic city with a huge megalopolis with overambitious buildings, gigantic machines which set the hectic pace of work in factories, planes drawing impossible trails.

And it is precisely that brilliant Fritz Lang’s film, which has become a true symbol of this decoration style, that has inspired our collection METROPOLIS. Because apart from its use to create modern and futuristic settings, the Art Deco is also a synonym of elegance and sophistication

METROPOLIS Art Deco furniture: luxury is in the small details

The magic in this decorative style is its power to unite classic lines (one of its greatest influences dates back to ancient Egypt and Greece) with avant-garde designs which results in a modern and original look.

METROPOLIS collection makes that unique impression which can only be experienced when you watch something really genuine. The greatest care and attention have been paid to detail.

The console table, made from crown cut walnut tree wood, uses top of the range materials. Other materials like leather and gold-plated bronze give this piece its exclusivity. Combined with the collection’s mirror, they give the hall a sophisticated touch.

The glamorous corner table is an example of the modern Art Deco aesthetics, which nevertheless contains forms that we have already assimilated as classic. An avant-garde lighted pedestal which at the same time reminds us subtly of the crazy 20s décor.
